23 Aug Finding light in the midst of darkness
Bill Coultas, a long-time friend of mine, gave me permission to use this photo. I was struck by the beauty of the sunset and also by the beauty of the darkness. There are two contrasts, the ending of a day – it is finished, and the glory of a day well lived in conjunction with the presence of God. The photo also makes me “feel” safe, protected, and full of hope. His light and His glory fills the skies and we get to participate in this miracle. Let hope arise!
The photo also encourages me to not focus on the darkness in my life but to focus on the light. For me, I don’t want to get bogged down with fear, sadness, grief, hopelessness, and loss especially in these turbulent days with COVID and all that comes with it. God promises to light our path if we let Him, even in the midst of this great darkness. I am reminded of two verses in the book of Psalm.
Psalm 97:2 reads, “clouds and thick darkness are all around him; righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne”. ESV (Promise!)
Psalm 112:4 states, “Light dawns in the darkness for the upright; He is gracious, merciful and righteous.” ESV (Promise!)
So whatever your are facing today, look for the light in the midst of the darkness. It’s there!
